I'm REALLY excited about this project's potential. I hope they're able to make it all work...

A band shell, green space, wireless Internet access and trees are part of the City Council's vision for a park planned for across the street from City Hall on the site of the former TXU building.

The council is set to discuss the park during a work session Tuesday.

"We need an area for downtown people to have a respite," Councilwoman Lana Wolff said, "but also a gathering place. It could also be a centerpiece for Christmas and Fourth of July parades."

Some council members have been talking to the Mortimer Levitt Foundation, which could provide part of the money for the band shell.

Certain conditions would have to be met, such as offering at least 50 free concerts a year.

Councilman Steve McCollum said the band shell would be key for the park and could help stimulate downtown redevelopment, one of the council's top priorities.

"Not just the park alone, but the plaza and a Levitt band shell is the catalyst that all together makes it all credible," he said.
