Thank you for that. I know you don't agree with me on this, but I'm glad you have an open mind and see that I'm not a bad person just because I don't believe in a God. That's why I love you!

I'm not sure I agree with the premise that atheists and agnostics are given shit because of their lack of beliefs (paraphrasing obviously.) I got way more shit when I was a catholic than when I ditched the whole ball of wax, so to speak. I figured people just thought by then I was a lost cause and not worthy of conversion. If you're catholic, you're at least part of the way there!

Now, I think, unlike the soft spoken young atheists drinking coffee with their beards and hip glasses, I think most atheists that get shit are loudmouths that conduct protests when they think religion is allowed to exist at all, publicly. I don't think people that mind their own business get fucked with, but maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones!

As for the pledge of allegiance guy, I'm on the fence on that one. I think the founding fathers set us up for controversy when they created a system of separation of church and state, yet threw the word god around on all kinds of public documents and buildings, including money.

I think, in their naiveté, they didn't think the subject would come up. They thought they had it covered, but clearly somebody was going to have a problem with deism being expressed in government institutions, including government funded institutions like public school.

Personally, I couldn't give a rat's ass if the word jesus christ superstar was written on every public building in America. It makes no difference to me whatsoever. But quid pro quo - if I want to hail satan on a billboard, I should be allowed to. Not that I would, but you get my point.

Ah well - that's what we get for living in a country founded by puritans!
