My question is this: If they'd consulted a Dostoyevsky story, would the judge have changed the ruling? In legal matters, I think that the Bible should be treated as any other work of literature, nothing more - nothing less.

What if they had consulted Dr Seuess and decided that he needed green eggs and ham?
I think they should have let them consult the Bible, the dictionary, and anything else they might have needed.
